When you’re replacing a roof, it helps to look at everything connected to it. The shingles cover most of the surface, but skylights and gutters have their own jobs to do. For this Farragut home, we brought those parts together in one project.
We completed a full roof replacement with a CertainTeed Integrity Roofing System, using Landmark dimensional shingles in Charcoal Black. The work also included new six-inch gutters and VELUX skylights.
Charcoal Black Gives the Roof a Fresh Look
This home has plenty of character, from its red brick exterior to the white trim and covered front porch. The roof is a large part of that appearance. Its main slope rises above several smaller roof sections, so the shingle color carries across much of the home.
The existing shingles had a lighter gray appearance with uneven discoloration across portions of the roof. The new Charcoal Black shingles give those surfaces a more consistent look. Their darker tone pairs naturally with the brick and adds contrast around the white siding and porch railings.
Landmark dimensional shingles also bring texture to the broad roof slopes. Up close, you can see the variation in the shingle pattern. From the street, the roof reads as a clean, finished part of the house.
A Full Roofing System and New Skylights
We installed the roof as a CertainTeed Integrity Roofing System. That system approach considers how the roofing components work together, including the layers beneath the shingles and the details along the roof’s edges and ridges.
On this house, the roof changes direction and height in several places. There are intersections above the porch and around the adjoining sections, along with a brick chimney and skylight openings. Those details deserve attention alongside the open stretches of shingles.
New VELUX skylights were part of the replacement. They keep daylight coming through the roof while updating another part of the home’s exterior. Including them in the project allowed us to address the skylights along with the surrounding roofing.

Six-Inch Gutters Complete the Job
We also installed new six-inch gutters. Gutters collect the water coming off the shingles and carry it toward the downspouts. They belong in the same conversation as the roof, especially on a home with several roof sections feeding different edges.
The white gutters fit the home’s existing trim, keeping a simple line around the darker shingles. Together, the roofing, gutters, and skylights give this Farragut home a coordinated update without changing the brick-and-white character that makes it feel familiar.
